Scar Tissue
Scar tissue is a matrix
of collagen fibers that the body forms in
response to a soft tissue injury or surgery.
Although scar tissue helps to repair injured
tissue, it can present its own problems. For
one, scar tissue does not have contractile
properties like muscle fibers. It is not as
elastic (stretchable) as a healthy ligament
or tendon. And scar tissue fibers are not
organized in one direction, such as those
found in muscle, ligament, tendon and cartilage.
Because of these factors, scar tissue represents
a "weak spot" that is usually the
first to rupture under a load; scar tissue
tends to cause "stickiness" between
moving structures (adhesions) causing pain
and loss of flexibility; and scar tissue,
due to its density may cause regenerated nerve
endings to bunch up, forming myofascial
trigger points.
Scar tissue can develop from microtears in
the fascia due to sports, weightlifting, and
years of heavy labor. In some cases it can
be palpated (felt) through the skin, feeling
like small, hard pebbles.
Endermotherapy, or Endermo
Sport is a soft tissue mobilization
treatment offered at our center that is helpful
in softening scar tissue and stretching contracted
fibers. It is done using a tecnologically
advanced machine called the LPG Keymodule.
With its combination of powerful vacuum
suction and variable speed and direction rollers,
the CelluM6 mobilizes contracted, reparative
tissue, making it more flexible and functional.
Patients include athletes desiring faster
recovery times from delayed onset muscle soreness
(DOMS), people who suffer from leg cramps
and muscle spasms, individuals experiencing
poor skin circulation, and pre and post liposuction
clients.
Patients wear a nylon suit specially designed
for endermotherapy treatment.
The suit allows the treatment head to engage
the skin without causing chafing. The
sensation feels like a negative-pressure
massage, applied in a wave-like pattern
and is quite relaxing. Sessions are
20-40 minutes, depending on the areas treated.

In addition, we offer Active
Release Technique, a soft tissue therapy
that restores motion of muscles and joints,
releases entrapped nerves, vasculature and
lymphatics, and re-establishes optimal texture,
resilience and function of soft tissues.
Phototherapy and InterX
Active Stim are advanced physiotherapy
modalities available at our clinic that can
help reduce the pain associated with scar
tissue and myofascial trigger points.
