Light Therapy
Light therapy is a relatively new, exciting
therapeutic modality used at our clinic.
It is effective for treating muscle spasms,
arthritis, soft tissue injuries (sprains and
strains), nerve pain, and skin lesions.
Research shows that light at a wavelength
of between 660 and 880 nanometers penetrates
through human tissue to a depth of up to 20
cm. The therapeutic effect occurs at
the cellular level: mitochondria, a
component of every cell in the body, respond
by increasing the production rate of ATP (adenosine
triphosphate), a molecule that serves as the
cell’s “fuel” or energy
source. This reaction allows damaged
cells to increase protein synthesis, increase
waste removal, and basically regenerate faster.
As a result, pain is reduced and symptoms
dissipate.
Our clinic uses the Dynatronix Solaris 720
Light Wave Therapy device. Light is
delivered via a special hand held probe, or
a light pad for larger areas. Patients
often times report reduction of symptoms immediately
after treatment.
